Professional Development Policy - 2011

Please note that TWENTY HOURS of recognised Professional Development
are required for membership renewal.

For the purpose of professional development, CAPA NSW will recognise courses presented by an educator/clinician with Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB) or higher accreditation within the discipline of counselling, psychotherapy or mental health. The area of the professional development training should have some recognised evidence base within the discipline.

Supervision training courses will be accepted for PD from the 2012 renewals period as long as the course presenters meet the criteria set out above.

CAPA NSW recognises that hypnotherapy can be a useful adjunct to counselling practice. However, as there is currently no evidence based research or government recognised qualification for hypnotherapy in Australia, CAPA NSW is unable to recognise hypnotherapy for counsellor professional development at this stage. This is under ongoing review by the Executive Committee.

Members of a CAPA committee or the CAPA Executive can claim 5 hours PD for each year they are on the committee.

This policy was reviewed and updated by the CAPA NSW Executive on 25 July 2011.
